Part Four
She was drowning. She gasped for air and she couldn’t fill her lungs. She reached out.
The child’s eyes were filled with fear. Her mother was kissing another man as her father burst into the room. She looked on in horror above from the balcony off the staircase.
“Get your hands off my wife!”
The two men started to struggle and as they were striking each other her mother kept stepping back closer and closer to the fireplace. All of a sudden she saw the flames.
The flames came up behind her mother. Suddenly Jessika Morlen had a glow of gold behind her. And the scream that filled the air was of sheer horror. Both men stared as the golden flames surrounded the woman in the wine color dress and dark hair.
Tom took a few steps back in horror. Morlen ran to Jessika trying to stomp out the fire. The child looking on from the balcony looked on in horror.
Suddenly the fire seemed to spread and now her father was also burning. The screams of pain reached the heavens. Tom ran towards the window and yanked out the curtains and tried to throw it over them to put out the flames but by then it was too late. The whole room was becoming a red inferno. The fire was spreading like a flood and Tom started backing out and then just turned and ran.
The child was glued to the balcony. Her small hands grabbing the poles as her eyes were frozen in horror over the burning bodies of her mother and father. There was smoke everywhere. She couldn’t breathe. She couldn’t breathe and she was being pulled out. She fought and fought.
~~~~~~~~~~
Danielle woke up in horror not being able to breathe and instantly she knew. She knew that Tori was dying. She ran. As she ran towards the ICU she could see through the glass the there was chaos going on. The beeping noises filled the air and she could see Victoria thrashing in the bed and suddenly stop. Victoria’s heart had stopped.
“No!” She yelled. Tommy was holding her against him as she fought him.
Dr. Peters briefly looked at the glass partition then looked back at his patient.
“Clear!” He jolted her to get her heart going. Still a straight line. “Clear!”
Again Victoria’s body jumped from the jolt and nothing.
~~~~~~~~~~
“Hold on Danni!” Tori could feel the tree trunk cutting her hand.
“Don’t let go Tori! Please don’t let go!”
“I won’t! I won’t!” Tori yelled back. If she let go of Danni’s hand, Danni would fall and surely die.
The searing pain started from her hand and filled her body. The pain was unbearable. Tori just wanted it to end. She just wanted the pain to end.
Then she heard it. She heard Danni scream “No!” And suddenly she realized she had to hang on. She had to hang on and not let go.
~~~~~~~~~~
“Clear!” Dr Peters yelled again.
The nurse touched him on the shoulder. “Doctor, she’s gone.”
Dr. Peters looked at the beautiful woman in front of him and it hurt.
